Approximately 18,000 native Chilean Mapuche live impoverished lives scattered throughout rural areas in the stunning and dramatic Los Muermos area of Patagonia. Most of the population works the land or sea, stretching from wind-swept seas of the rugged souther Pacific ocean eastward to the serene and picturesque Lakes District. Our hands-on experience with locals in a community service project will deepen our understanding of this unique and remote area of our world and its inhabitants.
Did you know: Patagonia is the southern-most part of South America, both Chile and Argentina. It’s got pretty much every landscape on the planet: mountains, desert, forests, wetlands, glaciers and, to top it all off, there are flamingos, pumas and penguins!
